Patriotic Christian add value to the nation

In his inauguration address on January 20, 1961, president J.F Kennedy of the united states of America told His countrymen “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.J.F Kennedy statement has since become popular throughout the world as an exhortation to patriotism among citizens of every nation. A Patriotic Christian add value to his nationality

As a Christian, what are you doing for your country? of what value are you to your country? What can you do to your country? Can we say you are a Patriotic Christian  As Christians, we know our responsibilities to God, but probably do not often think about our responsibilities to our country. This has made us deprived Christianity of its power in the nations. We often fail to realize that our love for God should show in our love for our country.  Everyone in the church claims to be born again but a true Christianity life produce a fruit.  (Rom 8:19 For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].)

The bible said “you are the light of the world”. (Mathew 5:14). The purpose of the Light is to disperse darkness. as a Christian it is our duty to shine.  (Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.)

One characteristics of light is that light those not make noise in other to shine. As a Christian our duty to our nation is not to be making noise about what is going on in our country. Our duty is to provide the light. We are to provide solutions to the problems in our country. Where ever you are as a Christian, you are to provide light, the only solution to take away darkness. Problem solvers, don’t make noise.

As Christians we are to submit to authorities. Paul even goes to call government “the ordinance of God” every existing authority which does good rather than evil is ordained by God for preservation of law and order, peace and wellbeing, and prosperity in the country. Bad governance in the other hand comes from the devil and is a curse. A good government serves as terror to evil and evil doers. A good ruler is Gods servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoers.

Rom 13:1-8: everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.

The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.  For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.

Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.  Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.  Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

As there is law and order under a good government, citizens go about peacefully with their legitimate pursuit. As Christians we should consistently pray and seek that the national and the state government should live up to their responsibility. If the people who govern love the country more than themselves; if they seek the good they can do to the country, instead of personal gain to come to them, then things will go well with our country and every citizen will be happy. This is can be achieve when we have Christians who are on their needs interceding for the country and its leaders.
